On October 14th 2007 Yum! brands (KFC and Pizza Hut) restaurants around the globe united to launch the first World Hunger Relief Week (WHRW).

World Hunger Relief Week marked the start of the global campaign in association with the World Food Programme. The fundraising didn’t stop at the end of the week though; you will still be able find collection boxes in all of our restaurants and we have introduced a special 16 piece World Food Programme Bargain Bucket that includes an automatic 10p donation to the WFP.

World Hunger Relief Week
October 14th – 20th

Whenever KFC was bought during World Hunger Relief Week, we asked if you would like to help us by adding 5p to the price of your bill. If you chose to do this then we matched your donation to make a total of 10p which will help the World Food Programme give meals to the hungry in developing countries.

So each time you buy a meal, you can give a meal too.

Yum! brands inaugural "World Hunger Relief Week" efforts spur unprecedented global awareness; four million volunteer hours and US$15 million in overall donations.

This fantastic effort will help the United Nations world food programme save 400,000 lives and has become the world's largest volunteer movement for hunger engaging 1 million employees, franchisees, their families and customers across nearly 35,000 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants in more than 100 countries.

This was a global initiative to raise awareness of hunger as an issue and raise funds for the UN World Food Programme via customer donations and internal fundraising activities.

Additional Terms & Conditions:
Customers can choose not to donate 5p or to donate more. KFC GB Ltd. and participating franchisees will match up to 5p donated per ticket. Funds will be donated to the World Food Programme (through the Charity Aid Foundation, Registered Charity Number 268369), which will use the money to provide hunger relief in the least developed nations in the world per WFP guidelines. According to the WFP, 10p can be sufficient to feed one meal to one child in some countries through its School Feeding Program. To help customers’ donations contribute directly to hunger relief, The Yum! Foundation additionally will match 7% of customers’ donations globally (subject to US $500,000 minimum and US $2,000,000 maximum), which equals WFP’s projected administrative costs.
