Eating a combination of food groups helps us to get the energy and nutrients we need.

Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA’s) are approximate levels of calories, carbohydrate, protein, fat, saturated fat, sugars, fibre, sodium and salt suggested each day for a healthy diet. They also help you to put the nutritional information on food labels into the context of your overall diet.

GDA’s are based on averages within the population. For example, an average adult with a healthy weight and an average level of activity. Individual requirements will vary depending on your age, weight and level of activity.

The suggested daily levels of nutrition for an average man, women and child are shown in the GDA tables below:
