Working together to make your local area better.
We know success depends on us earning the right to be part of every community where we work.
Our new restaurants are designed and built to fit into the local area and can be altered to suit the identity of the local street scene, meaning many KFCs have a unique appearance. We also use some of the latest innovations in our construction to ensure our restaurants are as environmentally friendly as they can be.
We only employ contractors who belong to the Considerate Constructors Scheme, to ensure minimal disruption for neighbours during a restaurant build. A new restaurant takes everything into account; from safe and easy-to-use car parks that minimise traffic, to innovative extraction systems that limit odour and noise, and lighting schemes that minimise overspill.
When we build new restaurants we create lots of local jobs and provide training in highly transferable skills. Our new target is to match 25% of new jobs to local, unemployed young people who need additional support to work.
Being a vibrant part of the community since 1965.
When we build a new restaurant in your area we bring £1.8 million in local economic output during construction. This means 45-50 jobs, of which 63% will go to people living locally, with up to 25% going to local unemployed young people. Our tailored training schemes are really valued by our staff and all employees undergo training in highly transferrable skills, such as team management, customer service and food operations.
We recently partnered with The Work Foundation to interview 2,000 young people on their views about working and training, and used the findings to influence public policy on youth employment. We are working towards our target to match 25% of new jobs to local, unemployed young people who need additional support to work. We also work with Barnardo's to help disadvantaged youth get a job and the training they need to develop.
As a fast food business we recognise that we have a clear responsibility to minimise litter in and around our restaurants. Our staff conduct up to 4 litter patrols each day within a 100m radius of the restaurant and we even sweep while you're sleeping. We also support initiatives to prevent litter in the community like sponsored litterbins and fixed penalty schemes. We are proud to be one of the first organisations in the UK to sign the Keep Britain Tidy Litter Prevention Commitment.
Getting involved in the community.
Our restaurants and teams support local causes and run regular charity days. We've done everything from helping to provide children's books for libraries to installing local Christmas trees. As part of the Welsh government bag tax we reduced our bag use in restaurants by a whopping 45% and helped raise £16,000 for projects like Noah's Ark Appeal and Keep Wales Tidy.
We invite anyone who has or is serving in the Armed Forces to enjoy a 10% discount in our stores in England, Scotland and Wales. The discount is given to those in possession of a Defence Discount Card. Just show it to your server when you order your food.
We've teamed up with Barnardo's to give on-the-job training to some of the country's most disadvantaged young adults. Our restaurant managers mentor their placements and help build lasting workplace skills. It takes patience, trust and lots of enthusiasm on both sides but it's very rewarding, as young lives are turned around and we help them work towards a brighter future.
